Thanks jimvoit. I finally get it. Your answer was very detailed and it helped me understand this question. The answer 1/48 seems better than the one I got, also the fact that it is 2m and not 3m for the ratios was a small mistake that I had made, but your post was really helpful.
You are the...
LOL.The reason why I think it's wrong is because my teacher did not give me marks for the answer 1/32 m/min. That is why I think there must be some twist to it.
And when I showed my calculations for h/3 = x/24 the teacher also put a "x" mark there.
Maybe then I did it right, I am not sure.
sorry for the late reply.
I am extremely confused.
How did you get the formula for the volume of pool? Also, I understand that as the height increases, the volume increases too.
Exposed surface will be a rectangle, so area would be length by width.
I understand the width is 8 m and the length...
So would that I mean I have to use some other formula rather than the As one. Because my teacher told me that formula is good for any questions which have exposed area.
Homework Statement
A swimming pool is 24 m long by 8 m wide, 1 m deep at the shallow end and 3 m deep at the deep end, the bottom being an inclined plane. If water is pumped into the empty pool at a rate of 2m^3/min, then how fast is the water level rising at the moment when the water is 1 m...
Thanks for your help mutton. I think I better understand the question as you have described it well. I tried doing this question into two pieces.
Please see the attached image Testnew.PNG to see if we looks ok.

Find an equation which passes through these points, and which also has the following:
. . .i) three inflection points
. . .ii) at least one local maximum

Thank you for your response HallsofIvy. Actually, that was my mistake for not reading the question properly. Your extended details have allowed me to grasp the question better.
For part a, we have to order 10 000 bulbs. To find out how many times we have to order, we put: 1000x = 10 000...
Homework Statement
A hardware store sells approximately 10 000 light bulbs a year. The owner wishes to determine how large an inventory of x (thousand) bulbs should be kept to minimize the cost for inventory. The carrying cost for the bulbs is $40/1000 while the paperwork for ordering is $12...
G01, thanks for your help. I was going over the question when I realized that it had mistakes. But your help allowed me to follow the question and make sure to get it right. Now, I have got it, thanks for your help.
HallsofIvy, thanks to you too. You helped me fix the formula. It was great...
thanks very much. But are you 'sure' that I have done it right? Or do you 'think' I have done the question correctly? It would be helpful for a good confirmation.
Thanks for your help.
