What should be my sequence of operations here? (factoring)

I see that now. But what I mean,is that after a search through the Internet through frustration netted me the knowledge that you may break up polynomials into two binomials consisting of similar terms if you cannot group them into a monomial and trinomial... Funny thing is though,I literally...

What should be my sequence of operations here? (factoring)

Hmm,It had not crossed my mind to isolate r^2... But besides that,it turns out my book had failed to mention that I might also be able to solve polynomials with 4 terms,by grouping them into two binomials consisting of similar terms... Blast it all... More work to be done yet... but you've got...

What should be my sequence of operations here? (factoring)

Hmm,well I wish my book would've told me that... My book never said seperating the 4 terms into a group of 2 binomials was an option... It's only ever said seperating them into a monomial and trinomial was my only option. Guess I need to look into this more...

What should be my sequence of operations here? (factoring)

Yes,thank you both,it seems I was hasty in my assumption. Why I asked,is it seemed like a problem I had with a previous problem, namely: r^2-s^2-25+10s Which I could simply not solve if I grouped like terms... The answer is (r+s-5)(r-s+5) I could simply not even start the process for this...

What should be my sequence of operations here? (factoring)

Hey Guys, So I'm currently factoring polynomials. As you all know, when trying to factor a polynomial with 4 terms, the answer can be the difference of a trinomial and monomial squares. So I had the problem 4a^2-4ab+b^2-c^2 I thought(book doesn't explain it well) that your first step was to...

Help Me Comprehend This.... (change of units)

Hello, First off, I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I didn't think this would constitute as a homework problem,as I'm not really asking to solve a problem, but more, I'm asking you all to help me comprehend and mentally vizualize this. So I had a story problem that went along the...

How Much Does Each Golf Ball Cost in This Algebra Problem?

No, the equation was correct,as I assumed, but my mind was so fried from studying I forgot to multiply .65 by 6 when distributing...:headbang: Ah well, thanks again

How Much Does Each Golf Ball Cost in This Algebra Problem?

Holy smokey. Man I need to learn how to take breaks in between studying... I re-did my equation and came up with the correct answer... Thanks anyway, haha.

How Much Does Each Golf Ball Cost in This Algebra Problem?

<< Mentor Note -- Thread moved from the technical math forums, so no HH Template is shown >> Hey guys, could use some insight here... So this is a basic story problem: "I paid $22.30 for 6 new golf balls and 10 used balls. If each new ball costs $.65 more than a used ball, how much did I pay...

Thinner beer bottle has lower heat loss?

I feel like this is the correct answer... In a perfect space, where air is the only means of heat transfer, the shorter bottle, with less surface area, would be the winner. But in a real life scenario, with real life variables, the longer bottle MIGHT stay cooler long enough to finish the...

Engineering Could use guidance -- seeking a BA in Mechanical Engineering

Fair point. I appreciate the food-for-thought. Regardless of which rout I go,it's definitely another option, and more options never hurt. Cheers. -ProjectTruth

Engineering Could use guidance -- seeking a BA in Mechanical Engineering

Yes,that's after all expenses paid. I might even be selling myself a bit short there. So,in theory, wouldn't I be in the same position at the same time(that is,a debt-free mechanical engineer with his future ahead of him)? Only with my rout,I now have 3+ years of workplace experience at a...

Engineering Could use guidance -- seeking a BA in Mechanical Engineering

Well, I currently live at home still. I have a position lined up (still praying hard as its not set in stone, but my chances are fairly strong) that will net me $30,000+ a year. The college I'm looking at has a 2 year program in Engineering that, upon completion,Is set up to transfer to a larger...

What skills are expected for college-level Mechanical Engineering?

Thanks man. I recently read through some of the classes the program teach and it coincides with your statement. Just got to work on Calculus...maybe I should make a phone call :/ Hahs, thanks again. -ProjectTruth
