Does gravity generate energy at least once?

So things only have potential energy when close enough to another's gravitational field? Otherwise every big of matter must have potential energy in relation to every other bit of matter, this would mean there's incredible amounts of potential energy in everything, i find that hard to believe.

Does gravity generate energy at least once?

If potential energy is real then where is the energy stored? Also wouldn't this mean that every bit of matter in the universe has potential energy for every other bit of matter, how exactly does that work? Thats a lot of potential energy!

Does gravity generate energy at least once?

But they were stationary to begin with so gravity had to do work to create the motion which caused the impact energy to be released. Potential energy is pretty much imaginary energy, it doesn't really exist so its like creating energy from nothing which i thought was impossible?

Does gravity generate energy at least once?

I don't get why you're being difficult, you do know asteroid impacts cause massive destruction and energy release don't you? Comparable to hundreds or thousands of nukes depending on the size? Well imagine a planet vs planet impact, its going to be many many times more powerful, all that...

Does gravity generate energy at least once?

Impacts create a lot of heat and light among other energy releases like kinetic (rocks being flung into space), the point is energy is being created or coming from somewhere but as gravity is a force i didn't think you could turn it into energy, mass isn't undergoing any nuclear fission or...

Free energy or an infinite universe, which one is it?

Interesting, so what is more like out of the two or is there an alternative?

Does gravity generate energy at least once?

Imagine two stationary planets close together start falling towards each other, they don't orbit or spin, instead they just move closer until they collide, this causes massive amounts of energy to be released in the form of heat and light which radiates away. So where is this energy coming...

Free energy or an infinite universe, which one is it?

It seems to me we must pick on or the other when you get right down to it, at the moment theory and evidence suggests free energy is impossible but at the same time the universe supposedly popped into existence so that would also suggest free energy is possible or that the universe/something has...

What stops a star from fusing all its fuel at once?

So is fusion actually a slow process then or just within the sun? I don't get what these unfused atoms are doing while they wait, surely if the conditions are right they should fuse as quickly as any other, i thought fusion itself happens fast so it seems strange to me why it all doesn't just...

What stops a star from fusing all its fuel at once?

What's physically stopping all the fuel fusing at once or rather each stage of its fuel cycle fusing into the next quickly? i know there's a lot of it and gravity holds it together but what are these atoms doing while they wait to under go fusion exactly? They are after all under the same...

Can Space Appear Curved Due to Forces Similar to Magnetism?

Oh right, so what's your definition of empty space then? I am not talking about models here, what is curving in reality exactly?

Can Space Appear Curved Due to Forces Similar to Magnetism?

The concept isn't that hard, what I am getting at is how if the definition of space is an empty area that stuff can occupy, how does this empty area curve in the presence of mass exactly? or is there something unseen in space causing the effect of curved space?

Can Space Appear Curved Due to Forces Similar to Magnetism?

Exactly, so nothing is just that, nothing, so what i want to know is what actually is causing gravity and the appearance of curving space time, I am talking about reality here, not mathematical models and such stuff, sure that's great to make predictions etc but its not how i or most people...

Can Space Appear Curved Due to Forces Similar to Magnetism?

When talking about space what are most peoples definitions of it? To me space means just an area of nothing that can contain stuff, if this is correct how can nothing curve? On the other hand if you're to say that something occupying space causes gravity that would make more sense to me.

Can Space Appear Curved Due to Forces Similar to Magnetism?

Ah i see, so If space itself doesn't curve what does or just gives the appearance of it?
