Installing Chemical Storage Tank: Pressure of Liquid or Gas?

it is a new pump we will be using. We will also include a automated block valve on the tank's outlet line, so when we are pumping out material the tank's outlet will be closed off. THe tank is not expandable, but we will be fitting it with a breathing ventilation line equipped with a...

Installing Chemical Storage Tank: Pressure of Liquid or Gas?

Hello Forum, I'm looking to install a new chemical storage tank at my site. The tank itself is not rated for vacuum. We will have proper ventilation and nitrogen pumping into the tank to compensate when we are pumping out of the bottom. However, I do want to include a pressure transmitter on...

What is the ideal thickness for a concrete slab for a chemical storage tank?

Good morning forum, I'm currently in the middle of a project where I'm installing a new chemical storage tank outside. I need to lay a new concrete slab for the tank to lay on. My question is how thick should the concrete slab be? The tank will be stationary, when filled it will weigh...

Can a Cantilever Beam with a 20 lb Mass Hold Up without Failing?

Yes we would use some type of tubing for the vertical section, not the 1/2 x 2" piece of steel. If needed, we could install 45o braces at the bottom of the vertical tube.

Can a Cantilever Beam with a 20 lb Mass Hold Up without Failing?

I agree. There is no wall around the installation. I was hoping to bolt the cantilever beam to a vertical building support column (20 inches to the left) but, what I may now do is install a vertical column directly below my device, and brace that to the support column.

Can a Cantilever Beam with a 20 lb Mass Hold Up without Failing?

Thanks for your reply. As far as the force that will be applied (coming out of the page) I can't really provide too much info here. In reality I will be bolting a 20 Lb mass on the h side of this beam (at the end), so I perhaps need to take twisting stress into consideration as well. The mass...

Can a Cantilever Beam with a 20 lb Mass Hold Up without Failing?

What's happening Form, It's been a while since I've done a FBD, but I wanted to get someone's input here and tell me if my math/logic is correct. I want to install a cantilever steel beam with a 20 lb mass at the end of it. I'm using carbon steel ASTM A108 (cheapest steel on McMaster-carr). I...

Engineering Is it a Career Mistake to Leave a Good Job for Personal Happiness?

Thanks for you input. Like I said, its not the job or (most of) the people here that I dislike. I would try to find something similar back home if I could. But its the area that surrounds the plant/where I live. And this may sound immature, but how long would be acceptable? A year, 3 years, 5 years?

Engineering Is it a Career Mistake to Leave a Good Job for Personal Happiness?

Thanks for your reply. And yes, that would probably be better order to take. Do you think I am putting myself in a bad position since I have about 2 years work experience? A lot of jobs I see posted (that are not entry level) require 3-5 years. I'd rather not put myself through another whole...

Engineering Is it a Career Mistake to Leave a Good Job for Personal Happiness?

Hey forum, I'm looking for some career advice for myself and I'll try to keep this short and sweet. To give you some background I graduated with my BS in mech. engineering in May 2015. I was hired into a company's rotational program and started out as a LEAN engineer for about 16 months, then...

Create Home Brew Bottle Capper: 6 at a Time

Could you not just flush the system with sanitized water once the process was complete? Also, does air not get into the product in the time between fill and capping? You have a bottle filled with product open to atmosphere.

Create Home Brew Bottle Capper: 6 at a Time

Yes, I've brewed before. I'm not looking to sell this device or solve any major problems, it's just a home project. I guess you're right, a cylinder coming straight down would be the simplest and cheapest option. The capper I have has two levers that push inward on the cap, and there is where I...

Create Home Brew Bottle Capper: 6 at a Time

My design for the filling process I think should work, at least on paper. I'll post more once I have a working prototype. Question: when applying a cap to a bottle, is the downward force more important or is applying an equal force on the sides of the cap and "smushing" it closed? I had an idea...

Create Home Brew Bottle Capper: 6 at a Time

Yea, I know I need to "math before I tinker". My design idea is a lever arm that would exert a distributed force on the arrangement. Since it's been a while since I've done any machine design course work, what would a design like this need to consider?

Create Home Brew Bottle Capper: 6 at a Time

Why? I wouldn't be opening 12 bottles at one time. Bottles and caps are purchased separately before they are filled.
