Is a Ph.D. Program Realistic for Someone with a Tumultuous Academic Past?

I'm glad you remember me Vandium. It's not that I have bad grades or am unable to do the work. Most of grades in real classes are A's, besides my bad semester this last one. Pretty sure I can handle the coursework, I don't know I'll just try my best and see what happens when I apply though.

Is a Ph.D. Program Realistic for Someone with a Tumultuous Academic Past?

Need opinions, I'm entering my "Senior" year in physics, and have a had a tumultuous academic past. I changed majors a lot before settling on physics and used to withdraw from classes halfway through the semester because I'd get bored with Gen Ed's etc. Last semester I had a rough go of it...

Physics PhD Success: 1 in 10 or 1 in 4?

Yes for b, but for I doubt it for a. Lazy and smart gets you nowhere.

Physics Graduating Physics Major needs Employment Advice

Cool. I can't deal with IT again, just too soul-sucking. Programming I can see myself doing but I guess I'll be up against CS grads which might make it pretty tough? Ditto for Engineering. I live near NYC can a Physics BS sell their soul to Wall St, or do you need a higher degree?

Physics Graduating Physics Major needs Employment Advice

I'll be graduating soon and don't really want to go to grad school. My heart is just not in it anymore and I want to start "living" outside of the context of school for once. I don't have any internships or anything to make me particularly attractive besides pretty good grades. A few years...

What to do about a bad independent study?

So I am taking a 1 credit independent study with a relatively new assistant professor who I am pretty sure only took me on to get a +1 on the his number of undergrads count and doesn't really have any time to advice me in anything or guide me. Ostensibly I am working on an experiment he's is...

How to get over the midsemester hump?

Agreed, but I have a hard time striking a balance, I'm either in full on school mode or full on some other kind of mode. Right now it is is definitely getting in the way of me reaching my academic potential.

How to get over the midsemester hump?

This happens to me most semesters. I start out enthusiastic and do amazingly well for a few weeks. Then eventually I start looking for ways to get corners and get by doing the minimum amount of work possible as my interests tend to wander to other areas, this semester I've taken a new found...

Do you do problems beyond the assigned HW?

Thing is the regular HW takes up enough of my time I don't know if I could do much more if I wanted to! :) I'm just not that smart or fast I guess.

Do you do problems beyond the assigned HW?

Back in my intro classes I used to do like half of the problems associated with any given chapter in the book. But then again this material seems to be especially formatted to the rapid fire rinse and repeat problem solving approach, probably to help make it formulaic enough for pre-med's or...

Improving Mathematical Proof Writing: Tips and Strategies for Physics Majors

Looking for a little advice regarding proving things in mathematical way. I am a physics major currently taking a math methods course where we are asked to prove things, basically for the time in my schooling career. Sometimes I have trouble formulating a mathematically rigorous way of...

    Special Relativity and atomic clocks

Sorry to revive a very old thread but I'm working on the same problem. I get the same answers as the OP and am convinced I am right. I'm not sure why you'd have to account for the motion of the Earth about it is axis because we are comparing the clocks on the planes to the clock on the Earth...
