    Calculating distance given total work?

Homework Statement The total work done is 2.42 * 10^4 J (work is from friction and person pulling a sled). The force of the person pulling is 135 N and the force of friction is 67 N. The angle on the sled is 48. Homework Equations W=f*d*cos0 The Attempt at a Solution I was thinking I would...

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

How about for the second part of finding the time?

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

So do I just do 400/2.5(his speed)?

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

I made a triangle with 2.5m/s as the hypotenuse, 1.5m/s as one of the sides. and solved for the other side. I did t=d/v (400/2=200). That's how I solved time.

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

    The boat's speed is 2.5m/s

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

Yes. I calculated the angle in another part of the question. I got 53 degrees.

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

    Velocity of the current.

    Fisherman's boat Relative motion

Homework Statement A fisherman wishes to cross a river to the shore directly south of his position. The river is 400 m across, and the fisherman's boat is capable of a speed of 2.5m/s. If the river's current has a velocity of 1.5m/s [W], determine a) the time it takes the fisherman to cross...

    Approaching 0: Rationalizing the Limit x→4 √x-4

I thought you would need to do something like conjugates for it.

    Approaching 0: Rationalizing the Limit x→4 √x-4

If I sub in 4 from the beginning, I will get sqrt 0. I can't have that as my answer.
