Centrifugal Force & Friction: Solving the Challenge

"laws of physics don't depend on your frame of reference " thats what i want to ask ... in ground frame which force is trying to drag the particle up the plane ? How can i obtain a range of frictional force for which the particle remains in equilibrium w.r.t funnel by solving the problem in...

Centrifugal Force & Friction: Solving the Challenge

consider a funnel rotating about its axis with a constant angular speed w . A small particle remains at rest w.r.t. the wall of the funnel . If we solve the problem in particles reference frame we have a centrifugal force mw^2 r whose component will be tending to move the particle up the...

Bohr's Atom Model: Kepler's Law & Elliptical Orbits

When bohr gave his model of atom kepler's law already existed ... What made him think that the electrons revolve around the neucleus in circular orbits ? The obvious assumption that should have come to his mind looking at the analogy between the gravitational and electrostatic force should have...

Coefficient of Friction: Exceeding the Limits?

There is a surprisingly simple way to relate this critical angle theta to the static coefficient of friction LaTeX graphic is being generated. Reload this page in a moment. Can you derive it, or have you seen it in your textbook? you mean tan (theta) = mu relation ? ok i think i got it ...

Coefficient of Friction: Exceeding the Limits?

if both the board and the object are coated with a sand paper then the object would slide when the board makes greater angle with the forizontal . how can i define coefficient of friction between 2 surfaces ?

Proving Charge Distribution Inside a Sphere Cavity

well it can not be proved using gauss law ... the cavity is of any arbitrary shape ... All i can say is that the potential of the metallic sphere will be constant . after that which gaussian surface do i take ? i definitely have a non uniform charge distribuition on that irregular shaped cavity...

    Reflection of a mechanical wave

when a mechanical wave is reflected by a fixed support it experiences a phase change of pi ... without getting into maths can i qualitatively prove this ? i cannot analyse how the forces will be acting .

Proving Charge Distribution Inside a Sphere Cavity

YES THE SPHERE IS CONDUCTING ... How can we prove using gauss law that the charge distribution will be uniform ?

Proving Charge Distribution Inside a Sphere Cavity

inside a sphere there is a cavity of an arbitrary shape . a chage q is kept inside the cavity . there will be a uniform distribution of charge on the outer surface of the sphere . how can i prove that ?

Gas Expansion and Work: Effects on Internal Energy and Temperature

Sir i have just started studying heat . did not find it interesting at all . please suggest some good book . What i thought in this question was that the potential energy of the gas molecules will increse so the randomness of gas molecules will change hence the temperature of the gas will...

Why can't helium reach 0 K and become solid according to kinetic theory of gas?

It is said that the assumptions of kinetic theory are good for gases having low density . Suppose a container is so evacuated that only one molecule of gas is left in it . Will all the assumptions of kinetic theory still be valid ? Can we assign a temperature to this gas ?

Why can't helium reach 0 K and become solid according to kinetic theory of gas?

If it were possible for a gas in a container to reach the temperature of 0 K , its pressure will be zero . would the molecules not collide with the wall ? would they not transfer any momentum to the walls .
