What are areas of programming that are more theory oriented and deal with more abstract ideas? Is this pretty much all of programming?
I'm learning a few languages (competent in some) and curious.
Thank you!
Thank you all very much for your information and thought.
It is a slow process in the beginning, I'm using engineers assess design process. I'm getting that it doesn't really set too many limitations.
If I were to engineer specific high-performance product and establish an engineering firm would this be legal in US without a degree for engineering?
This product would be somewhat benign, for example an intake.
Also any suggestions or side thoughts are welcome.
Thank you!

Any tips about how I would go about building this simulation/model?
I'm interesting in building for my portfolio a full simulation of large-scale networks under various circumstances measuring efficiency/optimization using different parameters and algorithms.
I current have a large business...
Becoming a doctor or "computer scientist" takes awhile. I mean CS and traditional Medicine are topically different (get it!? topically haha). In any case it is a personal choice based on preference and what makes sense to person.
Both disciplines are here to stay so...
One would emphasize perceived practicality/result driven vs. something theoretical possibly with the goal of a deeper understanding.
One is associated more with industry the other with academia.
This is crude generalization.
To be a solid good traditional actuary vs. accountant. There are no traits that would be optimal to the pace of work that is standard and the goal (difficulty of problem solving).
I was in an econometrics class and it seemed he did not appreciate accounting much. I think there is creativity...
Worth working on open-source project(s)?
I have 2 questions:
1) I have joined sourceforge etc and don't know how to join any actual ongoing open-source projects. Where do I find such work?
2) Is it work the experience to work on open source...in other words, will it look good on my...
I don't what your saying is true. All I can say is job demand is down since building/construction industry isn't booming like before...
Infact, my cousin is CE and is fully employed.
I would like to apply to to the social sciences, my greatest interest being economics. Thomas Schelling modeled many social phenomenon, such as, segregation through mathematical algorithms. I found some of his work namely this one very inspiring to me, I'm hoping to model similar phenomena...
