Hi everyone,
I was attempting the following past paper question below:
I have found a value for the coefficient c and I think I have calculated the inner product of <x|x>. I've attached my workings below. But I'm not sure what to do next to answer the last part of the question which asks...
Thank you for the help! I've now got to this stage which I've attached below instead of taking the ket out of the summation like I did previously:
But I'm confused why taking the complex conjugate of the first term in the numerator isn't just swapping around the terms in the bra and the ket?
Hi everyone,
I'm struggling with the proof for the second order energy correction for perturbation theory when substituting in the first order wavefunction. I have attached an image of my current proof for it below, but I'm not sure whether this is the correct approach for it (the H's in the...
Ah okay thank you. Are there any rules for calculating <ξ|? I know it's the hermitian conjugate but I don't really know how'd you calculate it for something like this. I know that if you treat kets like column vectors then bras are like row vectors bit that's it.
Hello everyone,
I'm stuck on the question which I have provided below to do with Dirac notation:
In these questions |a>, |b> and |c> can be taken to form an orthonormal basis set
Consider the state |ξ> = α(|a> − 2|b> + |c>). What value of α makes |ξ> a normalised state?
I'm brand new to Dirac...
