Ah ok. I thought the term particle was specific to sub-atomic 'stuff' when used in a physics context, so that's the root of my misapprehension.
Many thanks for clarifying.
But I thought that atoms were made from particles? In the way that a house is made from bricks. Eg an electron is a particle. I thought that a particle was a lower level entity. How can it be both made from particles and be a particle?
Resources I have looked at distinguish between the three basic states of matter in terms of how closely particles are held together; i.e. in solids they are bound most closely, in liquids less so and in gases they're much freer. Would it not be more correct to refer to how closely atoms or...
There are lots of amazing photographs of nebula around. The colors contribute greatly to their grandeur.
But if we were able to get near enough to a nebula to see it with the naked eye would it possesses the colors we see in published photographs taken by telescopes? Or are the colors in astro...
There are a lot of panic laden posts around the internet at the moment referring to a "mass extinction event" if the unit 4 spent fuel pool collapses.
I was going to include a few links but the forum won't let me (less than 10 posts). Just search this quote for example: “If they are MOX...
This has bothered me too, but I did find a reference to an explosion buried in one of the TEPCO press releases for March 15th:

Lack of pictures/video might be attributable to the early hour, ie before the press had their...
