Best Parachute Design: Minimizing Material Usage

well, yeah, that's the thing! We need to be able to control our speed of descent, and holes are apparently good for stability, so that's a plus. and round with a curtain seems to increase stability and is probably best for descent control. But what if there were 2 smaller round ones, you know...

Best Parachute Design: Minimizing Material Usage

haha no no no I wouldn't have you guys DO my project for me... This is just a side project, extra-curricular stuff. Just coming up with ideas now... And I haven't started the research yet so I'll let u know what I come up with when I get this Orbital Mech Assignment out the way. And about the...

Best Parachute Design: Minimizing Material Usage

Hey guys; for a project, I'm researching different parachute shapes and their efficiencies. My question is what is the best parachute design for the least amount of parachute material (so it takes up less room when stored). Let the brainstorm-ing begin! :)

Bernoulli's principle and the 3rd law of motion

well, in that case, I haven't hit my third yr in aerospace yet so, please, do continue (ill be subscribing to this thread :)

Bernoulli's principle and the 3rd law of motion

the weight of the plane is the downward force. Also, it is favoured in 'nature' to be drawn towards a lower pressure. say for instance, u suck out air in a water bottle, wheres the walls of the bottle going to go? inside. so the greater pressure is pushing on the walls. Like on a wing, where the...

    Are astronauts weightless in orbit?

True, but what makes weight is gravity and an opposing force. So weightlessness and gravity doesn't go together. They are simply masses with no external forces apart from the gravity ...thus, in free fall.

Understanding the Impact of Reduced Air Resistance on Object Acceleration

So, qualitatively speaking: resisting force = driving force since its at constant velocity, right? so if the resisting dropped from F to 1/4F... then the net force would be 3/4F in favour of the driving force. ...which means the object is accelerating.

Exploring the Possibilities of Exceeding C

...anything is possible. I've always said: Impossibility is just reluctance to pursue.

    Angular velcoity of point masses

hahah! oh, did I forget about the moment of inertia? Thanks for the heads up, Doc. And yes, you're right, Mizzy... EDIT: sry for the late posts... kind of distracted at the moment...

Exploring the Possibilities of Exceeding C

...or just see absolute darkness? ... i don't think time is related to light in any way. And its possible, we just need to find out how to use the other 90% of our brains :P

    Angular velcoity of point masses

its like a figure skater bringing in his/her arms. So the ratio between their circumferences (the revolutions) is 1/2. So 2*2 is 4 and so 4 is the new angular velocity. Its been a while since I've done something like this. let me know if I'm right, and what I did wrong?

Angle of Incline Calculation with Coefficient of Friction

no. you must have misunderstood. I meant the angle perp. multiplied by the coeff. of friction will give u your force countering the 35N (which is assumed to be equal). so fill in the blanks to find the angle.

Angle of Incline Calculation with Coefficient of Friction

well, first you need to remember that the weight (50N) is directed downwards, but the force of friction needs the weight applied PERPENDICULAR to the surface. Find this, then you will get your angle.
