    the system alternates between ON and OFF states. Whenever the system is in ON state, packet transmission mechanism happens. whenever OFF state comes in between the system is frozen and resumes from the point where it left at the end of ON state. Now the packet transmissions are renewals. Basically it can happen that two consecutive packet transmission can happen in two different ON states.
    Defining throughput as the
    ( time taken for packet transmission / total time between the two consecutive transmissions), i can calculate the throughput in a renewal cycle of packet transmission. But i want the the throughput in one ON-OFF cycle. How can i obtain that. can i scale it by the ON+OFF time?
