i wanted to know how to calculate uncertainty of measurments (in experiments) starting from the variational calculus. any books please.

Are you sure you want to apply the 'calculus of variations' to measurements?

This is not its usual application.

Unless you are referring to deriving the most probable estimate of error and weighting factors from a Taylor series?
