Two temperatures state in non-equilibrium plasma

In summary, there are several books and articles available that discuss the thermodynamics of non-equilibrium plasma, specifically the phenomenon of temperature stratification. Some recommended resources include "Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics and its Statistical Foundations" by Evans, Searles, and Williams, "Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics" by Bird, Stewart, and Lightfoot, and "Plasma Physics and Engineering" by Fridman. Additionally, scientific journals such as Plasma Sources Science and Technology, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, and Journal of Plasma Physics may also have relevant articles on this topic.

Hello
Two temperatures state in non-equilibrium plasma has different vibrational temperature and translational temperature. Vibrational temperature is more than translational temperature usually. Help me to find a book or article for describing thermodynamics of this state.

Hello there,

The phenomenon of different temperatures in non-equilibrium plasma is known as temperature stratification, and it is a widely studied topic in the field of plasma physics. There are several books and articles that discuss the thermodynamics of this state, and I would be happy to recommend a few for you.

1. "Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics and its Statistical Foundations" by Denis J. Evans, Debra J. Searles, and Stephen R. Williams: This book provides a comprehensive overview of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and its applications, including temperature stratification in plasma.

2. "Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics" by Robert B. Bird, Warren E. Stewart, and Edwin N. Lightfoot: This classic textbook covers the fundamentals of non-equilibrium thermodynamics and also includes a chapter on plasma thermodynamics.

3. "Plasma Physics and Engineering" by Alexander Fridman: This book specifically focuses on plasma physics and engineering, including topics such as transport phenomena and non-equilibrium thermodynamics.

In addition to these books, there are also many articles available in scientific journals that discuss the thermodynamics of non-equilibrium plasma. Some relevant journals to search for articles include Plasma Sources Science and Technology, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, and Journal of Plasma Physics.

I hope these recommendations are helpful to you in your research. Best of luck!

Related to Two temperatures state in non-equilibrium plasma

1. What is a non-equilibrium plasma?

A non-equilibrium plasma is a state of matter in which the temperature of the free electrons is significantly higher than the temperature of the heavier particles (ions and neutral particles). This creates a "dual-temperature" system, with the electrons and heavier particles having different temperatures.

2. How does a non-equilibrium plasma differ from an equilibrium plasma?

In an equilibrium plasma, the temperature of the electrons and heavier particles is the same, meaning they are in thermal equilibrium. Non-equilibrium plasmas, on the other hand, have a significant difference in temperature between the two types of particles.

3. What is the significance of the two temperatures in a non-equilibrium plasma?

The two temperatures in a non-equilibrium plasma have different effects on the plasma's properties. The high temperature of the electrons causes them to move faster and have a higher energy, making them more reactive and able to sustain certain chemical reactions. The lower temperature of the heavier particles can affect their motion and stability in the plasma.

4. What factors can influence the two temperatures in a non-equilibrium plasma?

The two temperatures in a non-equilibrium plasma can be influenced by various factors, including the type of gas used, the electric field strength, and the pressure of the plasma. Other factors such as the geometry of the plasma, the presence of external fields, and the type of discharge can also affect the two temperatures.

5. What applications does the study of non-equilibrium plasmas have?

Non-equilibrium plasma research has a wide range of applications, from improving energy efficiency in industrial processes to plasma-based treatments for medical and environmental purposes. It is also essential in fields such as plasma physics, materials science, and astrophysics. Understanding the behavior of non-equilibrium plasmas can lead to advancements in many areas of science and technology.
