Two computer fans on top of each other

In summary, by stacking two computer fans together in the same direction, the static pressure can increase to approximately 2x. However, this depends on the fan's design and if it has a stator to untwist the air before the second fan. Additionally, if the air path has low resistance, it may also increase the flow volume. It is important to note that using a fan with obstructed flow can result in significant noise due to turbulence.

TL;DR Summary
does pressure double when stacking fans?
If I have a computer fan that provides 50 cfm, and x static pressure. By stacking two of the same type of fans together, in the same direction, will it maintain the cfm but increase the static pressure to ~2x?

It will depend on the fan. If the fan has a stator to untwist the air before the second fan, the second fan should increase the static pressure difference. If the air path has low resistance to flow it may increase the flow volume.

A fan with obstructed flow will make significant noise as there will be little flow over the fan blade surfaces, air must then flow back through the gaps with turbulence.

Related to Two computer fans on top of each other

1. How does having two computer fans on top of each other affect cooling performance?

Having two computer fans on top of each other can potentially improve cooling performance. The fans can work together to increase airflow and remove heat from the system more efficiently. However, if the fans are not properly aligned or spaced, they may interfere with each other and reduce cooling performance.

2. Can I stack two different types of computer fans on top of each other?

It is not recommended to stack two different types of computer fans on top of each other. Each fan is designed with specific specifications and stacking them may cause compatibility issues or reduce cooling performance. It is best to use two of the same type of fan for optimal performance.

3. Will stacking two computer fans on top of each other increase the noise level?

Stacking two computer fans on top of each other may increase the noise level slightly. The fans will be working harder to cool the system, which may result in a slightly louder noise. However, this may be worth the trade-off for improved cooling performance.

4. Is it safe to stack two computer fans on top of each other?

It is generally safe to stack two computer fans on top of each other as long as they are securely mounted and do not interfere with each other's operation. However, it is important to monitor the temperature of the system to ensure that the fans are providing adequate cooling and not causing any damage.

5. Can I stack more than two computer fans on top of each other for better cooling performance?

While it is possible to stack more than two computer fans on top of each other, it may not necessarily result in better cooling performance. In fact, stacking too many fans may create more noise and vibration, which can be detrimental to the system. It is best to consult with a professional or conduct thorough testing before stacking multiple fans on top of each other.
