Twin Paradox: Relation between Age and Speed of light .

In summary, the conversation discusses the "Twin Paradox" in Einstein's special relativity where two twins, Dick and Jack, have different ages after one of them travels at a speed of 0.80c to a star 20 light years away. The formula √1 - v2/c2 is mentioned and the question is asked why Jane is younger than Dick. The conversation suggests checking the Usenet Physics FAQ article on the twin paradox for more information.

Hey Friends,
In Einstein's special relativity I find "Twin Paradox", where Dick and Jack, two twins . one of them went to space at a speed of 0.80c to a star 20 light year away (where c is the speed of light) and other remains on earth. When Jane returned to Earth his age was 50 but who stayed in earth, Dick, his age was 70.
I find a formula there : √1 - v2/c2
My question is how is it find and why Jane was younger than Dick ??
Thank you..

Related to Twin Paradox: Relation between Age and Speed of light .

1. What is the Twin Paradox?

The Twin Paradox is a thought experiment in special relativity where one twin travels at high speeds near the speed of light while the other twin remains on Earth. When the traveling twin returns, they will have aged slower than the twin on Earth, leading to a paradox.

2. How does the Twin Paradox relate to the speed of light?

The Twin Paradox is based on the principles of special relativity, which include the idea that the speed of light is constant and the laws of physics are the same for all observers. This means that the traveling twin will experience time dilation, where time will pass slower for them compared to the twin on Earth.

3. Why does the traveling twin age slower than the twin on Earth?

The traveling twin ages slower because they are moving at high speeds close to the speed of light. This causes time to pass slower for them according to the principles of special relativity. When they return to Earth, they will have aged less because their time was dilated.

4. Is the Twin Paradox a real phenomenon?

The Twin Paradox is a thought experiment used to illustrate the effects of special relativity. While the concept is based on real scientific principles, it is not a practical scenario that can be observed in the real world. It is used to help understand the concepts of time dilation and the relativity of simultaneity.

5. Can the Twin Paradox be used to time travel?

No, the Twin Paradox cannot be used to time travel. While the traveling twin will experience time dilation, the twin on Earth will continue to age normally. Therefore, the twins will not be able to meet up in the future or past. Time travel is still considered to be a concept of science fiction.
