Thermo flask - wall - air pressure

In summary, a thermos flask is a double-walled container designed to keep liquids hot or cold for extended periods of time. It works by using a vacuum to prevent heat transfer and the double-walled design is important for maintaining the desired temperature. Air pressure also plays a role in its performance and it can also be used to keep food hot or cold with proper cleaning and maintenance.

In a thermo flask the air between the outer and under wall is sucked out and a vacuum is created. So the air pressure should push the outer wall towards the inner wall and vice versa. But it doesn't happen. Why?

The walls are strong enough to withstand the pressure and therefor don't bend.

Related to Thermo flask - wall - air pressure

1. What is a thermos flask?

A thermos flask is a double-walled container that is designed to keep liquids hot or cold for extended periods of time. It is commonly used for storing and transporting hot or cold beverages such as coffee, tea, or water.

2. How does a thermos flask work?

A thermos flask works by preventing heat transfer through the use of a vacuum between its two walls. The inner wall is made of glass or stainless steel and is coated with a reflective material to reflect heat back into the flask. The outer wall is made of plastic or metal and acts as a protective layer. The vacuum between the walls prevents heat from escaping or entering, allowing the temperature of the liquid inside to remain constant for a longer period of time.

3. What is the importance of the double-walled design of a thermos flask?

The double-walled design of a thermos flask is important because it creates a vacuum between the walls, which significantly reduces heat transfer. This means that hot liquids stay hot and cold liquids stay cold for a longer period of time, making it ideal for keeping beverages at their desired temperature.

4. How is air pressure related to the performance of a thermos flask?

Air pressure plays a crucial role in the performance of a thermos flask. As the air pressure decreases inside the vacuum, heat transfer is reduced, allowing the flask to maintain the temperature of the liquid inside. This is why it is important to ensure that the vacuum seal of the flask is intact to maintain its optimal performance.

5. Can a thermos flask keep food hot or cold?

Yes, a thermos flask can keep food hot or cold. The insulation properties of a thermos flask make it suitable for storing and transporting a variety of foods, including soups, stews, and salads. However, it is important to note that the flask should be thoroughly cleaned and dried before and after each use to prevent bacterial growth.
