[Math Is Hard]

I grew up with a group of friends that was heavy on rap, so rap is by far my favorite music genre (the influence is innevitable). Nearly 2/3 of my Ipod consist of rap songs, as a matter of fact. I mostly dislike modern rappers, though. Some of my favorite songs:

Is K-Os rap? I like K-Os. I also like Lupe Fiasco, Common, Immortal Technique, and Fort Minor. That's about as much rap as I listen to though. I used to listen to a lot of rap, but I fell out like three years ago because I got tired of all the mainstream stuff. I now mostly listen to music without words, trance and psytrance.

K-Os is genre transcendent - really talented artist by the way.

That's all the crap I don't like. For some of them, you can barely even understand the lyrics, their diction is so bad.

I expected that reaction. Different tastes; I'm sure there's tons of stuff you like that I would consider utter crap.

I'm eclectic and yes I listen to rap.

Personally I used to like stuff from Lil Wayne (back then like in the Carter I and II and some stuff with Birdman), but the content is pretty weak compared to before.

Even though I still listened to diff types of music back then (particularly since I love playing many different instruments so I had an ear for a lot of different music), I liked rap more in the 90s. I liked the stuff that Tupac and Notorious BIG talked about.

The transition from rap in the 90s to today is apparent. The content is totally different, and it's just not the same. I do like some stuff from Lupe Fiasco, Common, and other intellectual rappers, but I got tired of the same drawn out stuff from past-favs like Lil Wayne. I never really became of the hyphy movement material here in the Bay Area either, so that rules out all that Bay Area music. The beats are catchy, but the lyrics are garbage.

This is mainly why I like to concentrate on classical rock. There's a lot of interesting stuff being said in classical rock and the supporting music is not bad at all (like stuff by Pink Floyd or even Led Zeppelin at times).

And, yes, werg, I'm sure I like stuff you wouldn't. My tastes run rather eclectic, so there's something for everyone to dislike in my collection (one friend doesn't like my Jimmy Buffett albums, another thinks I'm crazy for liking country music). I had a party where I just left my iTunes library on shuffle, and someone commented that it's rather uncommon that someone would have both Village People and Ozzy Osbourne playing back to back.

Just like Cyrus said, there is a lot of bad rap out there just like all the horrible rock that is on the radio. You have to dig to find good rap artists. There is a lot of awesome rap out there that has 0 cussing and that doesn't talk about treating women like objects.

Rap, pop, and death/hard core/black metal are great for parties, but I would never listen to them on my personal time for enjoyment. to me they're just like great background noise that get you pumped up, but not really a musical experience that evokes any emotion in me.

Sounds like dance music, I'm a founder member of the keep dance/trance/triphop/etc to the dance floors movement.

Some musical forms are the musak of the music industry. teen pop, dance and so on are probably at least in my opinion those categories I have very little respect for musically.

Indeed, not only that but I don't think people who write dance music except for a few notable exceptions try very hard, because it all sounds derivative, or it is actually someone elses song remixed with a drum machine in the back ground. Nothing against that on a dance floor but it's still not great music whichever way you want to look at it. At least rap has a message even if you think it is rubbish, and for the record I really am not interested in how much hos, bling and guns you have. But then not every rap artist writes poppy trash. Back in the day I was actually a bit of a fan of Ice-T.

It takes a while to get used to. You'll notice all the nuances and realize that there is a method to the madness. That is, if you want to. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. I mean, for me, it's really relaxing and I listen to it on my own all the time.

Are you serious. He was a one hit wonder, and it stunk the first time.

I think the reason why he was a one hit wonder was because he got pissed off at Weird Al's parody of his song , Amish Paradise, which probably made him unpopular because he was so uptight about it . It is ironic that coolio got mad at Al for parodying his song because coolio sampled Stevie wonder's song pasttime paradise.

IMO,Weird al's Amish Paradise is far superior to coolio's gangsta's paradise

I used to like rap a lot (dre, snoop dogg, tupac, ice cube et al), but ever since I switched to rock, I can't stand most of the stuff I used to go crazy over. I still like eminem though.

I listen to "Golden Age Hip Hop" - mostly stuff from the late 80s and early 90s. However, I also enjoy some of the mid 90s gangster rap (Nas, Dr. Dre, 2pac, etc.)
