Problem concerning zoom lens in camera

In summary, the problem concerns a diverging lens placed to the right of a converging lens with focal lengths of 12cm and -12cm, respectively. The lenses are separated by 4cm. The question asks for the location of the image formed by the converging lens for a distant object, the object distance for the diverging lens using the image formed by the converging lens as the object, and the final image location. This process is repeated for a lens separation of 8cm."

Problem concerning zoom lens in camera...

This problem deals with a diverging lens placed to the right of a converging lens. The converging lens has a focal length of 12cm and the diverging lens has a focal length of -12cm. The lenses are separated by 4cm.

a) For a distant object, where is the image of the
converging lens?
b) The image of the converging lens serves as the object
for the the diverging lens. What is the object distance
for the diverging lens?
c) Where is the final image?
d) Repeat for a lens separation of 8 cm.

I'm really confused by this question, it seems to me like the wording is off but I might be misinterpreting it :S Thanks for any help! :)

Related to Problem concerning zoom lens in camera

1. What is a zoom lens in a camera and how does it work?

A zoom lens is a type of lens that allows you to change the focal length and magnification of your camera. It works by using a system of movable lens elements that can be adjusted to change the distance between the lens and the camera's sensor, thus changing the magnification of the image.

2. What are the common problems that can occur with zoom lenses?

Some common problems with zoom lenses include image quality issues, such as distortion or softness, mechanical issues like zoom creep (when the lens extends or contracts on its own), and autofocus problems.

3. How can I fix a zoom lens that is not working properly?

The first step is to troubleshoot and identify the specific issue with your lens. If it is a mechanical problem, you may need to have it professionally repaired. If it is an image quality issue, you can try cleaning the lens or adjusting the focal length and aperture settings. If the issue is with autofocus, check your camera settings and try using manual focus instead.

4. Can zoom lenses be used for all types of photography?

Yes, zoom lenses can be used for a wide range of photography, from landscape and portrait to sports and wildlife photography. However, some photographers prefer to use prime lenses (fixed focal length) for specific types of photography, such as low light or macro photography.

5. Are there any tips for using a zoom lens effectively?

Yes, some tips for using a zoom lens effectively include understanding the focal length and its effect on the image, using a tripod for stability, and experimenting with different focal lengths and apertures to achieve the desired effect. It is also important to keep the lens clean and properly maintain it for optimal performance.
