Find the potential difference between A and B

In summary, potential difference, or voltage, is the difference in electric potential between two points in an electric circuit, measured in volts. It can be calculated by dividing the energy transferred by the charge or using Ohm's law. Potential difference is important as it drives electric current and determines power supply. It affects electrical devices by converting energy and may require a specific potential difference to function. Potential difference is measured using a voltmeter connected in parallel to the circuit.

Homework Equations

V = kq / r

The Attempt at a Solution

VA = k q / rA
VB = k q / rB
rB = √((√8 * R)2 + R2)
= 3 R
VB = k q / 3R
ΔV = | VA - VB |
= | kq / R - Kq / 3R |
= 2 kq / 3 R
Can somebody check my answer please ?

Related to Find the potential difference between A and B

1. What is potential difference?

Potential difference, also known as voltage, is the difference in electric potential between two points in an electric circuit. It is measured in volts (V).

2. How do you calculate potential difference?

Potential difference can be calculated by dividing the energy transferred by the charge that flows through the circuit. It can also be calculated using Ohm's law, which states that potential difference is equal to the current multiplied by the resistance.

3. Why is potential difference important?

Potential difference is important because it is the driving force that causes electric current to flow in a circuit. It is also a key factor in determining the amount of power that can be supplied to a circuit.

4. How does potential difference affect electrical devices?

The potential difference across an electrical device determines the rate at which electric energy is converted into other forms of energy, such as light or heat. For some devices, a specific potential difference must be maintained in order for them to function properly.

5. How is potential difference measured?

Potential difference is measured using a voltmeter, which is connected in parallel to the circuit. The voltmeter measures the potential difference between two points in the circuit and displays the result in volts.
