Final year project on mobile cellular network

In summary, the conversation is about a student who is planning a research project on how traffic in a cellular network can be redirected during high congestion, such as in a stadium. This idea was inspired by the use of this technology during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The student is asking for information sources to help with their project.

Hi,
Am new on this forum.I am about to start my final year in electronics and telecommunication and i am planning for my final year project a research on how traffic (signaling) in a specific cell in a cellular network can be sent to another cell when there is a huge congestion like in a stadium. Some one told me this was applied in south africa during the world cup in june 2010 because traffic (GSM/UMTS or other mobile communication technology used) was high due to 300,000 people visiting the country at that time

Welcome to the PF. Sounds like an interesting project. What have you found so far in your initial research? What information sources are available to help you learn how the systems are set up now?
