Chemical reaction that can be used for baby gender reveal

In summary, the conversation discusses the possibility of using a combination of phenolphthalein and bromothymol as an indicator for acid and alkali. However, it is pointed out that this combination will not work as intended due to the conflicting color changes of the two indicators. It is suggested to use Thymol Blue or Congo Red instead. The conversation also briefly mentions the idea of using pH as a way to determine a baby's gender, but this is quickly dismissed as not being a reliable method.

Hi.

Basically, the title. I've been thinking about combining phenolphthalein and bromothymol for this purpose.

Will this work? Thoughts?

I assume you're looking for a blue/pink change between acid and alkali or vice versa. Your combination won't work; phenolphthalein is colourless in acid and pink in alkali, while bromothymol blue is yellow in acid and blue in alkali, so the combination will be yellow in acid and purple in alkali.

Thymol Blue or Congo Red might give you the change you want.

Never heard about connection between baby gender and pH, what am I missing?

Presumably some way of turning something pink or blue to inform people of the baby's gender. Not a test for gender.

Related to Chemical reaction that can be used for baby gender reveal

What is a chemical reaction used for baby gender reveal?

A chemical reaction used for baby gender reveal is a type of reaction that produces a distinct color change or reaction when a certain substance is exposed to the urine of a pregnant woman. This reaction can be used to determine the gender of the baby.

How accurate is a chemical reaction for predicting baby gender?

The accuracy of a chemical reaction for predicting baby gender depends on the specific type of reaction used and the timing of the test. Some reactions may have a higher accuracy rate than others, but it is important to note that no method is 100% accurate in predicting baby gender.

What are the different types of chemical reactions used for baby gender reveal?

Some of the most commonly used chemical reactions for baby gender reveal include the baking soda test, cabbage test, and the red cabbage test. Each of these reactions involves mixing a substance with the pregnant woman's urine and observing a color change to determine the baby's gender.

Can a chemical reaction for baby gender reveal be harmful to the mother or baby?

The substances used in chemical reactions for baby gender reveal are typically safe and non-toxic. However, it is important to follow the instructions carefully and use caution when handling any chemicals. If you have any concerns, consult with a healthcare provider before performing the test.

Are there any other methods for predicting baby gender besides chemical reactions?

Yes, there are other methods for predicting baby gender, such as ultrasound, amniocentesis, and genetic testing. These methods are more accurate and reliable than chemical reactions, but they are also more invasive and may not be recommended unless there is a medical reason to do so.
