In summary, the maximum number of mandarins and guavas that can be bought for 50 is when there are 4 mandarins and 3 guavas, based on the simplified Diophantine equation 4M+3G=10.

The price of a mandarin is 20 and the price of a guava is 15. Find the number of mandarins and guavas that can be bought for 50.

(Thinking) So can an algebraic expression be made and the number of mandarin's and guavas that can be bought for 50.

Many Thanks (Happy)

Well, let $M$ be the number of mandarins and $G$ be the number of guavas, then we have:

\(\displaystyle 20M+15G=50\)

Divide through by 5:

\(\displaystyle 4M+3G=10\)

This is a Diophantine equation.

Many Thanks (Happy), So I see that this is the maximum the equation can be simplified.

1. Can an algebraic expression be made here?

Yes, an algebraic expression can be made in many situations. Algebraic expressions are used to represent mathematical relationships and can be created using variables, constants, and mathematical operations.

2. What is an algebraic expression?

An algebraic expression is a mathematical phrase that contains variables, constants, and mathematical operations. It does not have an equal sign and cannot be solved, but it can be simplified.

3. How do you create an algebraic expression?

To create an algebraic expression, you need to identify the mathematical relationship between the quantities involved and represent them using variables. Then, use mathematical operations to show how the variables are related.

4. What is the difference between an algebraic expression and an equation?

An algebraic expression only shows a relationship between quantities, while an equation shows that two expressions are equal. Equations can be solved to find the value of the variables, while expressions cannot.

5. How are algebraic expressions used in science?

Algebraic expressions are used in science to represent relationships between variables and to make predictions or calculations. They are commonly used in physics, chemistry, and engineering to describe and solve problems relating to quantities and their relationships.
