Brief introduction and general overview stickies?

I think that interested neophytes might benefit from having brief introductions to the subject of each forum available as stickies. These introductions would simply help orient members a bit better before they start posting. An important ingredient would be an accurate identification of what some of the standard ideas and concepts are, and perhaps even more importantly, what the status in current research of various approaches to the most important open problems are. I concede though that this might work better in some forums than others.
