In your profile it says you're 15? Without sounding mean or anything you don't really know if you're interested in astrophysics yet, if your educational system is similar to the one in the UK then you're 3-4 years away from studying any proper physics, let alone astrophysics. There is a massive...
You're getting way too ahead of yourself in terms of deciding what you are going to research, if you want to take a risk and try to become a physics researcher then go study physics then see where your interests develop as you start to cover the real physics (you say you are studying GR atm, I...
Hi everyone, Firstly sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this topic in but I thought as some/a lot people here will have done a physics degree it seemed like the best place to ask.
Firstly - My main question is what did you consider when making the decision of 'do I go for this job/career...
Hello, Sorry if this is the wrong place to post it but thought it related to careers
I am currently a undergrad with the aspirations of becoming a lecturer in physics at a university. (I know this is unlikely to happen but I have to give it my best shot) I was wondering if any people on here...
Look
1. going to the 70000 uni won't increase your chances of getting a phd because they are high in the research rankings
2. The quality of teaching isn't indicated by any rankings so we can't say which will have better teaching
3. It is how good you are that will determine your chances of...
Being connected internationally means very little to nothing for an undergrad student, when you apply for a phd supervisors are looking for how good you are as a student not what rank your university is
Dependent on if the physics course the lebanese uni covers everything in later years you want to study then id go for that one but I guess it depends on how much you need 70000$
As for engineering vs physics I don't really see why this is always a debate, firstly the subjects cover completely...
You won't be covering any less maths than most physics majors as everyone has to take a set minimum amount, I am sure most grad students didnt study 'Physics and mathematics' as their 2 majors. Most will have done one or the other.
Just pick what your interested in and let your interests...
Okay with if you HAVE to declare (though if you can take a mixture of maths and astro modules and just have a physics major instead of 'and xxxx' then do that) then don't think about what you want to do at grad school, pick what you are enjoying now, so if you really love doing maths then choose...
My old high school physics teacher said saying your like quantum mechanics, string theory etc before actually studying them is like someone looking at great pieces of art and saying they love painting, before they have even picked up a paint brush.
The point is you don't know if you like...
Sorry just re read a point I made and it wasnt very clear, I totally agree with you on not shutting out application based maths (hell I study maths and physics aha)
But maths isn't just a tool for some people and all these applications you speak of were developed, on the whole, from pure interest for the subject so without that there may not even be the applications. Many of the researchers I have come across in industry and academia have said they arent...
Most people don't study maths or physics to increase our chances of survival etc. Almost all researchers who do mathematics/physics do it because they love it. There is definitely a beauty in mathematics, I know of no mathematics researchers at my university that do it for the applications to...
