MarkFL replied to a thread Radius of Circle in Pre-Calculus
Let's let $0<a$ be the number units the radius must be increased. And so the change in area we can write as: \Delta A=\pi(r+a)^2-\pi r^2=b Now...

#### Basic Information

Biography:
Vietnam era veteran. Served in military 1970 to 1975, starting in Fort Dix, NJ. Trained as combat corpsman (medic) and later as medical lab technician at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Took jungle training at Schofield Barrracks, Hawaii, pending possible deployment to Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division. Fortunately, the Vietnam war ended prior to my deployment, so I got out of that mess by a few months.

Joined MENSA in 1988 and still a member.

Then, worked in VA Medical center for 28 years where duties included preparing surgical sets for various operations in the O.R. and also sterilized and tested high-tech medical equipment for proper functionality prior to use, such as heart pacemakers and other implantable medical devices.

Did some math and computer tutoring, but only for a few years.

Retired and severely bored - Now writing math/science programs to pass the time!
