Is it too late for me to study physics at 27 years old?

I think this is insane but I'm also a software developer age 25 considering going back to school, but it's sooo expensive!

Admissions Applying to a Ph.D. and not getting in - M.S.?

Nope, I'm applying to a B school, but the problem is, I didn't get along with my research professors as well as my work bosses, so I won't have many good "academic" references, which is the main worry. (Just had personal issues with 2 out of 3 of my research professors... so I wouldn't ask them...

Admissions Applying to a Ph.D. and not getting in - M.S.?

Hey there, I have been out of school for two years in the work world, so I think my application isn't as strong as I'd like it to be in terms of applying to Ph.D. Programs. I have a simple nuts-and-bolts question about it: If I take a "moonshot" and apply to just Ph.D. programs, will this...

Engineering Transitioning from Software Development to Engineering

Hello. I graduated 1.5 years ago with a major in Computer Engineering. I have been programming since I was a young child so it seemed very natural for me to go into software development. Throughout my undergrad I focused on the easiest path to me (computer science classes were a breeze) while...

Data Science and the need of programming?

Hello. I have an undergraduate degree in CS and I'm beginning grad school to study AI and Machine Learning. I've spent a lot of time doing "software engineering" (dealing with design patterns, web development, QA, Agile processes, SQL, GUI development) and I'm really sick of it. I don't use...

Is a MS in Modelling and Simulation worth anything?

Hello. I am currently a student at UCF in Orlando, FL. Simulation and modelling are big things around here. I have the opportunity to get my master's degree paid for by the lab I work in. I'm not terribly excited to stay here for another two years, but I really don't want to get a master's if I...

    Schools Robotics graduate school advice

I would like to pursue a graduate degree, and I am set to graduate in Fall 2012. I would love if someone could give me a little advice tailored towards my current situation and goals. Please and thank you! Here's my story... I'm a computer engineering student entering my fifth year at...

Schools How would grad schools see me? [Machine Learning / Data Mining / Robotics]

Hello all. I'm sorry if this is a long post but I would love to hear from someone who got into a masters or Ph.D. program in robotics, machine learning, or data mining. I really would just like to know how my chances are of going to a good school and earning financial support for it...

    Math Pure mathematics or statistics

You might also want to take some writing classes. Communication skills are very important for lecturers. Also, I'd say a bachelors in Mathematics Education is perfect for you. You wouldn't even need to go to one of those pesky graduate programs.

Engineering Computer Engineer going into Simulation and Modelling

Hey all. I feel as if I've dug myself into a dead end and I'd appreciate some career advice. I'm a senior computer engineering student with a 3.8 GPA at a decent engineering school. I chose the major to further understand the mysteries of computers. I enjoyed learning what I did, because now I...

Programs Probable CE major looking for advice

I'm a computer engineering major and I'm a senior at UCF. I might be able to give you some pointers. First off, why do you want to do computer engineering? To design computers? Well, let's see what goes into that. Computers engineering often has a lot to do with microcontrollers...

Schools Will these courses prepare me for grad school?

I go to UCF. I believe Wave Mechanics is supposed to be my quantum class. I can take some physics labs for electives if it's really imperative. Honestly, I'm just thinking of getting a double major even though it will set me back another year. Any opinions? Edit: I'm doing my research in...

Taking computer science classes to prepare to physicist

I think you should look at taking mathematical modeling courses and programming courses. A lot of the time they'll be grouped into one. Introductory CS is never a bad idea though.

Schools Will these courses prepare me for grad school?

Hello everyone! My school has a rather odd math major - it just so happens to perfectly suit me. I studied engineering for the first 2 years of school, as well as a little bit of CS, and all my classes fit perfectly in this major "Mathematics - Engineering/physics track." I should be able to...
