How Do You Synthesize 1-Methyl-2-Bromo-Cyclohexane from Methylcyclohexane?

I've been staring at these for a while now and I can't seem to get them. I would really appreciate anyone's help with these. 1. Methylcyclohexane -> 1-methyl,2-bromo-cyclohexane (bromine added to ortho carbon in respect to the methyl group). The main problem here is that I don't know where to...

How Can I Solve Organic Chemistry Synthesis Problems?

Sorry...I realized this was the wrong forum for this.

Relatively simple question regarding Thermo (entropy and heating)

Problem 1: Homework Statement An ideal gas is heated reversibly at constant volume from T1 to T2. Calculate the entropy change of the system, the surroundings, and the universe. Homework Equations dS = dq/T (reversible change) and dq = CvdT (constant V) The Attempt at a Solution I know how...

Help me convert Boltzmann distribution/partition function into Geometric series

Homework Statement 3. The following calculaltion shows how the ratio of e to kT affects the populations of different energy levels. kT is sometimes called the thermal energy; if it is small relative to e, a particle will not be able to access higher energy states. Consider a harmonic...

Help with some Quantum physics please

I'm in Quantum right now and I'm having lots of trouble with some homework...Any help would be appreciated. If you guys could show how it's done, it would be very helpful. 1. If the Earth (of radius R = 6370 km) absorbed all photons incident on it from the Sun, what magnitude of force would...

Question of Statistical Thermodynamics (Boltzmann Distribution)

I think you are thinking too deeply into this. I'm sure the justification for pt A is fine as long as the energy levels are evenly spaced. I also did calculate the average energy. For pt B, I'm sure there's a justification with the information given. I'm looking for something statistical or...

Question of Statistical Thermodynamics (Boltzmann Distribution)

Can you clarify? I tried doing B using the standard Boltzmann equation, ni/N = e^(-BEi)/e^(-BE1) + e^(-BE2) + e^(-BE3), but you can't get a result because using the values of E I have e^(-BEi) approximates to about 0 resulting in an undefined answer.

Question of Statistical Thermodynamics (Boltzmann Distribution)

I apologize if this is the wrong thread but since this relates to thermo I figured this would be a good place to post this question. This is a problem that was assigned to us for physical chemistry but I can't find a good justification for one of the problems. 1. A system containing 38...
